baby clark

(from April 19)

Meet Clark! His claim to fame is that he was born in the car. You read that right! Visit Kelly's blog if you're interested in that story! She also has a wonderfully honest post about the transition from 1 kid to 2 she posted recently. Check it out!

Kelly is one of my great friends from my LensBaby meetup group. Her daughter Claire is between Kate & Caroline in age, and the three of them have a lot of fun together. We're so thrilled for our sweet friends and their darling new boy.

I believe Clark was 13 days old when I met him for our photo shoot. I definitely don't claim to be a newborn photographer, but Clark sure made it easy on me. He slept so soundly the entire time I was there!

Here are a few of my favorites-

Composition & Creativity Photography Course

The reason I was so MIA on the blog for the month of November is that I was fortunate enough to get into a Clickin' Moms photography class I've been wanting to take called Shooting 301: Composition and Creativity. The reason I say I was fortunate to get a spot is because this class filled up in 71 seconds!! It is in high demand for a reason!

Each week we had reading material, shooting assignments, got daily critique from our peers, and weekly critique from our amazing instructor and TAs. I can't say enough great things about this course; I don't want to go into great detail about all the material and what I learned, but I will say I have become a much more thoughtful photographer.

I'm just going to do a major picture dump a few of my practice and submitted images...

More blog posts with pics from November to come!

new gear

I've been making some big purchases thanks to generous family gifts for my birthday.

I bought the D800. I FINALLY WENT FULL FRAME!!!!

Along with that, I sold my D7000 and my 35mm (since it was for crop cameras), and I'm working on selling my macro lens. I just don't use it enough.

Today, a 28mm, a 50mm, and an 85mm were delivered to my door. I spent a little bit of time this morning testing them out for sharpness and getting a feel for the focal lengths on the full frame body.

I currently own a 50mm 1.4D, but it's been bothering me lately. That's why I'm trying out the 50 1.8G instead. I know it doesn't open up as wide, but I may decide I like it better anyways.

This shot was taken with the 50 f/1.8G. My little model was eating her snack. :)

And here she's eating lunch. Gotta keep her busy! This one was taken w/ the 28mm f/1.8G. I'm trying to decide how much distortion I'm okay with. I would rather do the 35mm f/1.4G, but it's twice as expensive.

It's going to be hard to decide what lens line up to keep! Any advice??

"Mastering Natural Light Indoors" week four

Last week was the final week for my lighting course through Clickin' Moms. What a great experience and a push to grow technically and creatively.

There are definitely times I wish the girls were a little older so they would hold still and let me position them, but we'll be there soon enough! I'm pushing my luck with Kate as it is... she said to me the other day, "Mama, stop picturing!" I guess I'll have to take what I can get.

This first one was the one I submitted for my assignment.
